I just finished Michael Chabon's The Yiddish Policemen's Union. This is the first book that I've read by Chabon and I was blown away by the rich description - I stopped several times to read a beautifully crafted sentence out loud to Liana.
One of cohorts in geography is studying urban heat islands. She distributed over a hundred of these small temp loggers throughout the city. Very cool stuff. Talking with her about this made me think of Rainbows End and Vernor Vinge's ideas about grid sensors.
